Safety Checks Confusion
For our Victorian members, I have been reading in another forum a post regarding the gas and electrical safety checks and there seems to be a lot of confusion, and thought I would quickly mention here for our members. Please understand the legislation and regulations require a safety check to be done every 2 years, they do not ask for a compliance check. For example a home built in the 1970's must comply with the regulations of the 1970's, unless legislation demands they update to comply to new requirements then they do not need to comply to current standards, they must just be safe. If you receive reports saying 'not compliant' please question the report provider asking "is it safe" as the requirement is to be safe, not necessarily compliant to todays standards, and if it is not compliant ensure to ask, is this an issue that is required to be compliant with current standards.
